Loudspeaker Development

Our Journey

Having been struck at how bad the sound at so many venues was, we resolved to stop complaining and to see if we could do something about it. We went back to first principles and questioned all the common assumptions about sound reproduction and along the way made some startling discoveries.

We discovered the Manger transducer and were exposed to the insights of 30 years plus of research by Joseph Manger into human hearing, perception and the importance of transient response. Next we discovered that DEQX were well advanced in their pursuit of using sophisticated digital processing to eliminate so many sources of loudspeaker distortion. We were hooked!

We then asked ourselves, could we design a range of Pro Audio loudspeakers that encapsulated the qualities that really made a difference? Qualities such as accurate transient response, time and phase coherance, all with a warm natural sound that allowed the audience to focus on the event and not the technology.

Thus began a journey of building prototypes, trying them out and learning some valuable lessons. We are now finalising our 4th generations designs and hope to have them ready for a limited release during 2006.

We also have designs for home oriented loudspeakers for those who's budget cannot stretch to the superb Manger plus DEQX combination. These may start to emerge during 2006, at least in prototype form.

Loudspeaker Design Goals
Smooth mellow sound to reduce listening fatigue and yet with enough bite and punch to engage the emotions and get the adrenaline flowing.
Optimally tuned to maximise accuracy and coherency – essential for excellent articulation.
Carefully damped to reduce feedback susceptibility and cabinet induced harmonic distortion.
High efficiency and capable of substantial high power output.
